Meals

We believe that school meals are an important part of the school day and that a balanced nutritious meal helps the children to learn and develop well. We encourage the children to eat healthily and this is reflected in the school meals.

Our meals are prepared at Keswick School. Keswick School has a large kitchen that is able to provide us with a choice of main courses, deserts and salad bar at a reasonable price. They use fresh, local produce and even the option to order a packed lunch on days of school trips. Children will be offered a choice between two main courses and two puddings every day.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are offered a free school meal. For children in year Three to year Six, the price of school meals prices is £2.75 per meal and half portions are served to Nursery Children at £1.50. To ensure that the debt to the school is manageable we encourage meals to be paid weekly or half-termly.

Free School Meals

All children in Reception and Years 1-2 are eligible for free school meals. From Year 3 upwards, some children may be entitled to free school meals if their families meet the criteria. If you think your child may be eligible for free school meals please complete a form, which is available from the office.

Packed lunch

Some families may choose to send their children to school with a packed lunch. We would like to ask you to resist sending in sweets or chocolate as part of a school lunch. All children will be provided with water and we will therefore not allow any sugary or fizzy drinks. These conditions also apply when the children require a packed lunch as part of an outing.

Snacks

EYFS and Nursery Pupils and Key Stage One children are offered a piece of fruit for a mid-morning snack. The youngest children are also offered milk.

Sometimes children in Key Stage 2 are offered a piece of fruit when there is some left. We encourage children to bring a snack, like a piece of fruit or vegetables, to have at break time. Children are allowed to drink water at any time and can keep a bottle on their table.

Treats

Treats to share are allowed on birthdays and other occasions because we feel special days should be celebrated!
