Physical Education

At Borrowdale Primary we are committed to providing high-quality PE and sporting opportunities for all pupils. PE is a central part of school life. We believe that our PE curriculum should encourage and empower children to lead healthy and active lives with an understanding of the relationship between physical activity, health and fitness.

The fantastic situation of the school offers a choice of activities for the pupils to participate in which involve real adventure. In the summer term, we make the most of our environment and we offer activities such as kayaking, mountain walking, abseiling, windsurfing, ghyll scrambling, rock climbing, etc. as part of our PE curriculum. In the winter months, we use the newly refurbished Borrowdale Institute for our indoor PE lessons.

Weekly physical education lessons are designed to enable pupils to develop coordination and key skills, develop flexibility, strength, control and balance and to experience a range of competitive sports. Our children can expect to receive sports teaching from a range of professional coaches over the course of the year. Additionally, all children are encouraged to participate in competitive sporting competitions and have the opportunity to represent their school.

As well as providing mainstream sports and activities, we find it important to give the children the opportunity to experience new sports. The pupils have been taken to Manchester to the snowdome to ski and the velodrome to cycle. In addition to PE lessons, children have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra-curricular sports at lunchtimes and after school.
